Spring Salamanders
April 4th, 2011 Posted in creation, Family, HomeschoolingA local naturalist was gracious enough to take us for a walk this evening to see some of the local salamanders in the Dundas Valley.
The black salamander with yellow spots is a yellow-spotted salamander. They belong to a group call the mole salamanders that only come out of the forest in the spring to mate in small ponds.
The salamanders we saw were still quite sluggish. The water was still mainly ice covered and quite cold. They are little gems in a beautiful world!

I have seen many of these guys out side my house. I live in the town of ravena on Starr road. I was wondering I’d they are dangerous at all. I have a dog and do not want him to get hurt if he gets a hold of one.
