The Mummies and the Aztecs
November 4th, 2009 Posted in Crafts, Family, Homeschooling, TravelsWe made a weekend trip to London and had a funtastic time. The Jeffreys were good enough to find enough places for us to eat and sleep.
While the dads went to a study day on Song of Songs the moms and kids took the tube to the British Museum to make mummies. What fun! We were introduced to some of the history of mummies and then were given craft supplies to emulate the idea. The kids made mummies according to their personalities so none were alike.
Here are the results:
The Scholtens’ and Jeffrey’s mummy creations.
Emma’s Mummified Cat
Jonathan’s Mummified Nile Crocodile
Hannah’s Mummified Cat
Caleb’s Mummified Sacred Ibis
After the activity we made our way up to the ‘real’ mummies up in the ancient Egyptian rooms.
We also made it to front row seating for the Aztec Music and Dance performance. Some of the kids even joined the dancing.
An impressive headpiece.
The children’s favourite costume.
Joining in the dance.
There is so many possible places to go and things to do in London. I think I could live there for a year. I don’t think I know of any North American city with quite so many Museums and Galleries accessible to the public for free.
Enjoy!

Actually, Washington D.C. was one city I thought of. I was there when I was 13 but the finances were not my department. LOL
